Recently, I hear people say on different social media platforms that school is a scam. This is probably because many graduates are yet to secure a good job even after many years of their graduation.
It is true that there are a lot of graduates in Nigeria without jobs, but that does not amount to school being a scam.

Let me ask you, is learning a scam? No! Learning is not a scam and cannot be. School also is not a scam, but it is just a place of learning, a formal education if you choose to put it that way.
From age to age, learning will continue to be in force, and people must continue to learn. People will learn to scribe (or art of writing), to trade, to farm, to repair machines, to build, to discover new knowledge, and so on.
Meanwhile, learning can be formal (ie. in school) or informal. In fact, many people are now using eLearning tools to acquire education and those of us in the EdTech industry is promoting it with passion. It is unfortunate that some employers still discriminate against certificates gotten from online education. But this is a talk for another day.
The problem here is that many Nigerians mistake school for wealth. This is erroneous. And that is why they call the school a scam when the money or job is not forthcoming after their graduation. My dear, school is just a platform for learning, just like there is an Igbo apprentice method of learning the trade.
What you do after undergoing the learning process (whether formal or informal) is a different thing altogether. Remember, there are people who did Igbo apprenticeship and were well settled at the completion of their apprenticeship, but they still did not excel in business.

So our youths should not sit idle or just be hustling in unsustainable things because they have been brainwashed to believe that school is a scam. School cannot be a scam since learning is not a scam.
Therefore, learn something today. There are a lot of skills one can learn out of school (both online and offline).
This is one of the reasons why we built Akanne Academy, to help those who may not afford to attend conventional education.
School is not a scam, keep learning, keep winning.
